Survey CAD Technician III


Furtado is a leading consulting engineering, land surveying and construction management firm in Seattle, WA. We are a small, privately held firm that works on transportation infrastructure projects throughout the Puget Sound area, including Sound Transit’s Link Light Rail Extensions and numerous projects for WSDOT and SDOT. Our busy office currently has an opportunity for a professional and experienced individual to fill the role of Survey CAD Technician III. Job Responsibilities:

In this position, you will be part of the Land Surveying team working primarily in the office or remotely from your home office if deemed appropriate. You will work and collaborate daily with the designated Project Surveyor, fellow Survey CAD Technicians, and Survey Party Chiefs on various ongoing projects. This position reports directly to the Technical Project Manager and ultimately the Furtado Survey Manager.

Job responsibilities will include but are not limited to:

  • Interpret survey field-notes and sketches to incorporate field survey data to create and update Right-of-Way, Record of Surveys, ALTA, and topographic drawings and DTMs using Computer Aided Design (CAD) software (Autodesk AutoCAD Civil 3D)
  • Reduction of as-built measurements and simple calculations will be performed and included into drawings or supporting documents
  • May be asked to perform field visits, which will require exposure to outdoor weather conditions
  • Interact and collaborate with office staff regarding project particulars and field related topics
  • Maintain records of CAD deliverables and supporting files at key project milestones
  • Modify drawings based on designer’s “redline” markups
  • Produce isometric drawings, perspective drawings, details, overlays, base drawings, maps, and illustrations
  • Manage AutoCAD or MicroStation drawings, including plan sets, XREFs, layers, title blocks, blocks, and viewport creation
  • Set up and prepare drawings, exhibits, and engineering plans using various CAD standards
  • Troubleshoot, research, and problem solve CAD file and software issues
  • Manage shifting priorities and communicate with project managers, designers, and other CAD Technicians
  • Use other digital formats (i.e. Bluebeam, GIS, Adobe Photoshop) to create graphics and CAD drawings

Qualifications & Requirements:

  • An associate degree or completion of a technical trade school in Engineering, Land Survey, CAD, or related field is desired, but not required
  • 2+ years of related and linear CAD work experience
  • Fundamental knowledge of the Principles and Practices of Land Surveying is essential
  • Self-motivated, be able to work in a fast-paced environment, and be able to complete assignments quickly and in timely fashion
  • Experience with Autodesk Civil3D and/or Bentley Microstation
  • A clean driving record and a valid Washington State Driver’s License, or the ability to acquire one prior to employment

Salary Range: 

$33.07 – $41.34 per hour
